Rising feed Input costs In Agriculture & Aquaculture

Fertilizer is typically one of a farmer’s most expensive annual purchases, and it’s an important determinant of crop yield. The raw material costs for fertilizer, which include ammonia, nitrogen, phosphates, nitrates, sulfates and potash are soaring. As feed costs increase, farmers face the challenge of maintaining efficient Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) to optimize productivity and profitability.

In aquaculture, the cost of fish feed can range from 30% to 70% of the total production cost. This percentage can be higher for species with higher FCR or when using specialized feed formulations. The rising cost of feed is threatening to sweep aquaculture farmers out of business.

Many people are feeling sticker shock at the grocery store in response to inflated food prices. Farmers aren’t making higher profit margins despite the recent high prices, so they have to increase the prices of their products. This means consumers are eating the extra cost of fertilizers.

Our Solution

Fertilizers and feeds have conventionally served the purpose of directly nourishing plants and animals. However, over time, their application can lead to gradual degradation of the growing mediums. Our objective is to address this challenge by minimizing reliance on conventional feeds and instead focusing on enriching the growing mediums, such as soil and water.

Through thinking differently, we aim to enhance the quality of these mediums by promoting the growth of beneficial microorganisms. This, in turn, facilitates the natural production of materials that serve as sustainable sources of nutrition for plants and animals. As a result, the dependency on artificial feeds can be reduced by a significant margin, typically ranging from 20% to 50%. This reduction translates into substantial cost savings for farmers.

Excessive Use of Chemical Fertilizers in Agriculture

Excessive use of chemical fertilizers in agriculture poses several problems. It contributes to environmental pollution through water contamination and disrupts aquatic ecosystems. Soil degradation is another consequence, as chemical fertilizers often neglect essential nutrients, leading to reduced fertility, erosion, and decreased long-term productivity. Nutrient imbalances can arise, affecting plant growth and crop quality while disrupting nutrient cycling. Residues of chemical fertilizers in food crops can also pose health risks to humans. Moreover, excessive chemical fertilizer use harms beneficial organisms and reduces biodiversity in agricultural landscapes. It is estimated that the manufacturing and usage of synthetic fertilizers, contribute to around 6-7% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Our Solution

Using all-organic natural fertilizer in agriculture improves soil and water health by enhancing structure, water retention, and microbial activity. The organic matter, nutrients, and microbial community in organic manure enrich the soil and water, supporting sustainable crop production. In aquaculture, organic fertilizers help to provide balanced nutrition, including essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals, promoting the overall health and well-being of fish. It supports optimal growth, disease resistance, and ultimately enhances the quality of fish products.

Plants benefit from improved growth, stimulated root development, and readily available nutrients, resulting in higher crop yields and better produce quality. Regular use of organic fertilizers enhances long-term soil fertility and reduces the need for external inputs, supporting a sustainable agricultural system. Organic fertilizers foster biodiversity and create a favorable habitat for beneficial soil organisms like earthworms, bacteria, and fungi, contributing to ecological balance.

Unmanaged Agricultural Waste

The production, harvest, sorting, and packing of fruits and vegetables generate billions of kilos of agricultural waste annually. Vegetative waste can have significant negative consequences when left unmanaged and unattended, including environmental pollution, contamination of water bodies, and degradation of soil and air quality. It also creates a favorable habitat for pests, insects, and disease-causing organisms, posing risks to crops, plants, and ecosystem health. Moreover, accumulated dry or dead plant material from unmanaged waste increases the risk of wildfires, which can cause extensive damage to the environment and properties.

The Solution

Fruits, leaves and vegetable bearing plant stems are renowned for their abundance of nutrients. Using our novel approach, we extract the stem sap from these plants, which serves as a key ingredient in our product. This stem sap contains a rich array of micro and macro nutrients, plant growth hormones, phytochemicals, and beneficial bacteria. These extracts offer a potent blend of natural compounds that can enhance plant growth, productivity, and overall crop health.

Our commitment extends beyond the extraction process. We aim to repurpose a substantial amount of agricultural plant waste, approximately 3000 tonnes per year, as part of our sustainable practices. As we expand our operations, our goal is to significantly increase the volume of plant waste repurposed, making a substantial contribution to reducing agricultural waste and promoting a more circular and environmentally conscious approach.

Invasive Weeds

Water hyacinth (Eichhornia Crassipes) is a highly problematic invasive weed found in more than 50 countries across Central and North America, Asia, Europe, and Africa. Its dense growth creates significant challenges by blocking waterways, limiting boat traffic, recreation, flood control, and impacting wildlife use. The aggressive nature of water hyacinth reduces biodiversity by displacing native plants above and below the water's surface. It can also uproot crucial emergent species that provide habitats and food sources for wildlife, disrupting the ecological balance. The disposal of water hyacinth presents a tricky situation as improper handling and disposal can lead to its establishment in new water bodies, exacerbating the problem.

The Solution

Despite its negative reputation as an invasive weed, Water hyacinth possesses remarkable properties with anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antibacterial functions. By harnessing the potential of this plant, we transform it from being unwanted and unwelcome in water into a valuable resource. Under controlled conditions, composting water hyacinth helps break down its plant material and convert it into nutrient-rich organic matter.

Our innovative approach involves utilizing this composted water hyacinth as a key ingredient in our product. By doing so, we not only address the issue of excess water hyacinth but also contribute to a true sustainable solution. Rather than viewing it as a problem, we embrace the opportunity to turn it into a valuable asset.

Water Quality

Poor water quality, characterized by low oxygen levels, high ammonia concentrations, and fluctuations in temperature and salinity, can weaken fish immune systems, rendering them more vulnerable to diseases. Moreover, inadequate water quality creates an ideal environment for the proliferation and transmission of pathogens, ultimately causing disease outbreaks in aquaculture. In some cases, the utilization of organic waste like cow dung or chicken waste lead to oxygen-deficient zones at the bottom of ponds, negatively impacting fish health. Additionally, these organic waste materials may carry pathogens that can be introduced into the aquatic environment, further contributing to disease risks. Consequently, aquaculture operations may incur substantial economic losses and resort to antibiotic usage or other treatments, further influencing the overall environmental impact.

The Solution

Our aquaculture solution with its superior nutritional content, beneficial microbes, and easy uptake, delivers notable benefits to farmers. It contains humic acid, boasting antibiotic properties that support fish gut health, stress management, and immune systems. When applied, it integrates with organic matter at the pond bottom, fostering the development of a vital microbial community. This community plays a critical role in decomposing uneaten fish feeds and toxic wastes, contributing to a healthier pond environment. Adsorption of the manure by pond sediment enhances bottom soil quality and water retention properties. During nutrient-depleted periods, the gradual release of these nutrients stimulates plankton development. Fish ponds fertilized with our product demonstrate significantly increased dissolved oxygen concentration, while the soil moisture retention rate nearly doubles compared to chemically fertilized systems.
